Bangor man faces cocaine charges

BANGOR, Maine — Undercover agents purchased cocaine from a man at an apartment near Abraham Lincoln Elementary School on two occasions recently and planned a third purchase last week, but the man took off with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency’s money.

“He stole the money and ran off,” Garry Higgins, MDEA supervisory special agent for the Bangor-based North Central Regional Task Force, said Monday. “He ran right out the back door.”

Adam Shawley, 23, of Coombs Street didn’t get far and was at a friend’s house when arrested by agents around 6 p.m. June 23 on two counts of Class A aggravated trafficking in cocaine.

“We never recovered our money,” Higgins said, adding Shawley got away with a couple hundred dollars.

Agents had been watching Shawley’s home for a while, he said.

“We learned that he was trafficking in cocaine and we initiated an investigation to covertly purchase from him,” Higgins said. “He lives in a school zone. That let to the aggravated Class A charges.”

Selling drugs within 1,000 feet of any school, automatically elevates the charges, Higgins said. He said there is no evidence that Shawley sold drugs to students at the school, but added there is no way to know for sure.

If convicted of the Class A felonies, Shawley would face a penalty of up to 30 years in prison and up to $50,000 in fines for each charge.

After his arrest, Shawley was taken to Penobscot County Jail and had his initial appearance in 3rd District Court in Bangor last week, where his bail was set at $2,500 cash, a jail official said. He was released on Thursday with bail conditions that bar him from possessing alcohol or illegal drugs and a curfew that requires him to be off the streets between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.

On the off chance that the owner of this apartment building happens to read this article: Quit renting apartments in that place to skum - the neighbor's are getting sick of they way that building is being managed.

No surprise, no mention of Bangor PD, even in Bangor.

Despite popular belief, Adam is not a scum bag. He comes from a very nice family who owns a couple businesses in somerset

county. He has spent time with my family camping over the past couple summers and that never would have happened if he was a scum bag.

He obviously made some piss poor choices and he will pay for them.

I do not now nor will I ever condone the selling of drugs regardless of what the drug may be.

I believe that if you make the retarded choice to be a dope dealer knowing full well what that choice

could mean for your future then you get what you asked for.

As for Garry Higgins comments in reference to his selling to kids, thats BS and he knows it. That would not happen.

If this kids is selling cocaine in a residential neighborhood, he IS skum. I'll be willing to reconsider after he goes to jail, finishes a treatment program and gets a job. Until then, don't waste my time.
